A great start to your Australian experience…
This course is specifically designed by Professional Pathways Australia for applicants undertaking an internship in Australia^. This unique one week intensive program focuses on aspects related to the Australian business environment and provides a learning context that will help you develop confidence, enjoyment and independence applicable to your time in Australia and throughout your placement.
A Preparation Course is available to you before you commence your internship. Essential items relating to Occupational Health & Safety and Australian Workplace Practice you need to know* are covered in the program.
The content of this course varies according to the needs of each intern but generally you will be involved in the following:
1. Specific internship orientation sessions

Getting settled - accommodation, banking, Tax File numbers, Mobile phones and phone cards

Social program - after work drinks, weekend trips, as well as a weekly newsletter

Exploring the city - transport, things to do & see, shopping

Internship –
what
to expect from
your internship: the first day; workplace customs and expectations; your role as an intern; communication in the workplace; Occupational Health & Safety

Concerns and problems - Who to contact, culture shock, life in Australia, Australian English.
2. Communicative language classes to improve confidence and fluency:
- Writing emails, business letters and memos
- Asking for clarification or help from supervisors
- Making casual conversation with colleagues
- Listening skills for meetings and on the telephone.
3. Excursions and social activities
Designed to familiarise interns with the city, help them meet other interns and make friends.
4. Free-time
Opportunities to explore the city, meet with Professional Pathways Australia staff, or just open a bank account.
^Currently only available in Sydney
* Professional Pathways Australia may waive this requirement for some applicants based on an individual’s prior experience. This waiver remains at the discretion of Professional Pathways Australia.
